NHS
& Private Healthcare
In
many areas the requirements of both the NHS and the private sector are
identical with regard to the archiving of records. However,
the Government has placed an emphasis on the NHS to introduce the
electronic storage of medial records as the benefits to be gained for
both patients and healthcare professionals are enormous. In recent times the NHS has been given more freedom to look across the markets generally to identify which systems offer the best value for money and where possible where savings can be made by utilising existing hardware.
The direction for the NHS of "Equality and Excellent: Liberating the NHS" was outlined by the Health Minister, Simon Burns in the white paper issuedin September 2010:
Improving IT is essential to delivering a patient-centred NHS. But the
nationally imposed system is neither necessary nor appropriate to deliver
this.”
“The Government intends to
bring about an NHS information revolution"
This
principle is no less important in the private health sector and the
presentation of records is vital as both a working tool for healthcare
professionals and also as insurance against any potential litigation.
